Terms and Conditions
Last updated: 3 November 2026
About this website
These Terms and Conditions apply to https://esil2027.com/ during the Call for Papers phase of the ESIL Annual Conference 2027. They cover use of the website, proposal submissions, access to submitted proposals and enquiries to the conference team.
The website is operated by Universidade Católica Portuguesa, through its Faculty of Law, with registered address at Palma de Cima, 1649-023 Lisboa, Portugal, and Portuguese legal entity identification number (NIPC) 501082522. In these Terms, ‘we’, ‘us’ and ‘the organisers’ refer to that entity acting through the conference organising team.
Read these Terms together with the Submission Guidelines at https://esil2027.com/call-for-papers/guidelines/ and the declarations displayed in the submission form. The Guidelines contain the scientific, eligibility, authorship, language, format and deadline requirements for the Call for Papers.
Responsible use
Use the website lawfully and respect the rights of others. Do not impersonate another person, submit materials without authority, upload malicious files, interfere with the website or attempt to access proposals or information you are not authorised to view. Any restriction needed to address misuse will be proportionate to the issue and applicable law.
Submitting a proposal
The Call for Papers includes individual paper submissions and ESIL Interest Group panel proposals. Use the appropriate form and provide accurate, complete information and the required materials. You are responsible for checking the information, authorship details and declarations before final submission.
If you provide information about coauthors, conveners, chairs or speakers, ensure that they have approved the proposal and the information submitted about them. Confirm that you have authority to submit the materials and respect any applicable third-party rights.
Each author may appear on only one abstract in this Call for Papers, as explained in the Guidelines.
Submission editing and secure access
Entering information or opening the review step does not submit a proposal. A proposal is created only when final submission succeeds. The confirmation identifies the submission and provides instructions for access. Keep a copy of your materials and confirmation details.
No account or password is required. Access is provided through a personal secure link sent to the authorised contact: the corresponding author for an individual submission or the primary submission contact for an Interest Group proposal. A submission reference alone does not grant access.
Keep your personal link private and use Access Submission at https://esil2027.com/call-for-papers/access/ if you need to recover access. Do not include the link in a support message. If you suspect unauthorised access, contact the conference team. Contact details and access permissions must be updated through the applicable submission or support process.
You may review and update a submitted proposal until 31 January 2027 while editing is available for its status. Review your changes and complete Save Changes to apply them. A successful update preserves the same submission reference. After editing closes, contact the team about any necessary correction.
Scientific review and subsequent participation
Submitting a proposal does not guarantee acceptance. Proposals are assessed under the criteria and process described in the Submission Guidelines. The abstract is assessed before the CV is consulted for programme composition. For Interest Group proposals, the programme committee may request composition changes to meet the applicable membership and diversity requirements.
Scientific acceptance does not complete conference registration. Selected contributors must follow the applicable membership, paper submission and in-person participation requirements in the Guidelines and subsequent instructions. Requests for Early-Career Scholar Prize consideration are assessed separately from scientific selection and do not guarantee eligibility or an award.
Submitted materials and publication
Copyright in submitted materials remains with the authors or other relevant rights holders. By submitting, you grant the organisers a non-exclusive permission to receive, store, reproduce and share those materials with the people and service providers authorised to administer and assess the proposal. This permission is limited to those purposes and does not transfer ownership.
For selected proposals, this permission also allows publication of authors’ and other programme contributors’ names, professional affiliations, contribution or panel titles and short professional biographies in the conference programme and website. It does not include public publication of CVs, full papers or proceedings. Any additional publication requires a separate arrangement with the relevant rights holders.
Website content and external links
Website text, design, photographs, graphics and logos belong to their respective rights holders or are used with permission. You may consult and download materials for the purpose for which they are provided. Other reproduction or use requires the relevant permission unless allowed by law. Preserve any authorship or copyright notices.
Links to external websites provide access to relevant information or services. Those websites are operated independently and have their own terms and privacy information. Check the applicable information when following an external link.
Personal data
The Privacy Policy explains how personal data is used for enquiries, submissions, scientific review, communications and programme organisation, including data provided about other people. Read it at https://esil2027.com/privacy-policy/. These Terms do not replace that information or provide blanket consent for unrelated uses of personal data.
Website availability and responsibility
We take reasonable care in maintaining the website and its information, but availability may be interrupted by maintenance or technical problems. Submit in sufficient time to review your materials and resolve difficulties. If a problem prevents submission or access, contact the team promptly, explaining the issue without sharing personal access links.
Any question of responsibility for loss or damage will be assessed under applicable law. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability, remedies or rights that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
Changes to these Terms
Updates will be identified by the date shown above. Material changes affecting submitted proposals will be communicated to the relevant contact. An update does not retrospectively change an existing permission or establish acceptance of new obligations merely because the website remains in use.
Where a new agreement or permission is required, it will be requested separately.
Applicable law
These Terms are governed by Portuguese law, without affecting any mandatory protections available under other applicable law. Any dispute will be dealt with by the courts having jurisdiction under the applicable rules. Nothing in this clause restricts a right to bring a claim before a court provided by mandatory law.
